Literacy

Lead by Daniela De Luca

At Mary Queen of Heaven, we believe that children are best placed for success in life when they have the skills that enable them to communicate effectively and understand the world around them. Our Literacy approach aims to equip children with such skills.

Educators use data to inform their teaching, designing target teaching groups that address their needs. Alongside learning the content of speaking & listening, reading and writing, children have the opportunity to build capabilities. Capabilities encompass knowledge, skills, behaviours and dispositions.

Our reading approach focuses on building children’s phonics and phonemic awareness, using strategies that are effective and evidence-based, that provide children with the building blocks for reading success.

Our writing approach aims to instil a love of writing in children, building their confidence to be effective writers through ‘Bookmaking’.

Discovery provides countless opportunities for children to build speaking and listening skills, through authentic learning.
