Enhancement

At Mary Queen of Heaven, our Enhancement Programs support students who are performing below expected levels in literacy and numeracy. Following the Response to Intervention (RTI) model, we provide targeted, evidence-based support tailored to each child’s needs. These programs help students strengthen essential skills, build confidence, and achieve success alongside their peers.

Outline of Speech Pathology Services at Mary Queen of Heaven

As a part of Mary Queen of Heaven’s commitment to supporting the needs of all students, every student in the Prep cohort completes an oral language screening assessment with Melanie Raffa, the speech pathologist employed by the school. Melanie works at the school twice a week.

A Speech Pathologist specialises in communication, speech, language and literacy skills. They help to identify, assess and provide support for students in these areas. This support may occur in the classroom and at times students may be withdrawn from class to participate in small group activities.

At Mary Queen of Heaven, Melanie assesses all the Prep’s oral language and articulation skills at the beginning of the year. She forms groups based on students who score below what is expected for their age in grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure and production of speech sounds. Melanie also works with students in other year levels, as needed, to provide targeted assessment and intervention.

Through this service, our goal is to give every student the best possible foundation for successful communication, learning and participation at school.
