A word from the Principal
Dear Families,
What an incredible Book Week celebration we had last week! Our students and families embraced the spirit of the week wholeheartedly, with brilliant handmade costumes, incredible creativity and so much enthusiasm.
The turnout for our Book Week Parade was absolutely fabulous, and it was wonderful to see our school community come together to celebrate our shared love of books, stories and imagination.
A very special highlight was celebrating Thiya, whose achievement and passion for writing is such an inspiration to us all. And how lucky are we to have an author in Year 5! Thiya is a wonderful role model for all the young writers in our school community, showing our students that their ideas, stories and voices can become something truly special.
A huge thank you to our families for getting into the spirit of Book Week and helping make it such a memorable celebration. We certainly know how to celebrate a good book at MQH!
For those wishing to support Thiyas and purchase her book it can be found following this link to Amazon:
Our Art Show Is Almost Here!
We are SO excited about our upcoming Art Show! Our children and staff have been working incredibly hard throughout the year to create artwork that we are sure will stop you in your tracks!
Next Thursday promises to be a wonderful celebration of creativity and community. We have lots planned for everyone to enjoy, including food trucks, pizza for families, a cupcake stall, artwork and other items for sale, and, of course, our much-loved and highly anticipated class group piece auction and staff artwork auction.
And this year, Bluebell features heavily throughout our Art Show — we can’t wait for you to see how she has inspired our community!
Where possible, we ask that families please bring cash to support the event. We will have EFTPOS available, but cash is preferred.
Most importantly, invite your family and friends to come along! The more, the merrier. This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school community, celebrate the incredible creativity of our children and enjoy a fun evening together.
Our children are so proud of what they have created, and we can’t wait for you to see their amazing work.
We look forward to seeing you all next Thursday!
Father’s Day Morning Tea
We are looking forward to welcoming many dads, grandfathers and special people in the lives of our children tomorrow for our Father’s Day Morning Tea and classroom visits.
It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the important men and special people who support, encourage and love our children each and every day. We look forward to sharing this special morning together and creating some beautiful memories with our school community.
We can’t wait to see you tomorrow!
Please add this to your family calendar – we hope to see many family members as we can. Family Maths afternoon

EXCITING NEWS…Hillview Road Crossing – Our Ongoing Advocacy for Safety
A sincere thank you to the families who have taken the time to contact Hume City Council and advocate for greater safety at our Hillview Road school crossing. Your voices matter, and I greatly appreciate your support.
Road Safety and Courtesy at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Please be aware that we all have a responsibility to commit to following the road rules and to being patient, courteous and respectful during both morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up times.
I am disappointed to report that recently we have experienced a growing number of incidents involving poor behaviour between parents and, on some occasions, towards our staff. These incidents have largely related to parking, traffic flow and road behaviour around the school.
I want to remind everyone that the safety of our children, families and staff must remain our absolute priority. Frustration with parking or traffic congestion is understandable; however, it is never an excuse for aggressive, impatient or disrespectful behaviour.
Please ensure that you:
- Follow all road and parking rules and signage.
- Follow the directions of school staff who are assisting with traffic flow.
- Do not park illegally or in a way that obstructs traffic or creates a safety risk.
- Exercise patience and courtesy towards other families and road users.
- Speak respectfully to staff and other members of our school community at all times.
We are fortunate to have a growing school community, but with growth comes greater responsibility from all of us. A few extra minutes of patience can make a significant difference to the safety and wellbeing of everyone.
Thank you for doing your part to ensure that our school drop-off and pick-up times remain safe, calm and respectful for our children, families and staff.
Congratulations to Julia who will be leaving us at the end of term 3 to begin her career in early childcare as a center manager. This is a real promotion for Julia and we are so excited for her yet sad that she is leaving MQH. We wish her all the very best. Julia will be replaced by Alex in term 4.

We recently partnered with the team at Bakers Delight Airport West. They have been incredibly generous to our school. We are grateful for their support and sponsorship of our school events.

Please refer to the nForma shared earlier this term about our change over to MACSEYE as the provider for Before & After Care. This change will take place in term 1 2027. BIG Childcare will remain our provider for the January holiday period.
MACSEYE will take over as of 1st February. There will be no care offered the week of 25-29th January so they can prepare the space. BIG Childcare will offer vacation care right up until Friday 22nd January.
More information will be here in due course.
Late arrivals continue to be an issue for some families. As per the information shared earlier this week, individual families will be contacted in the coming weeks so that we can work together to ensure all children arrive at school on time and don’t miss crucial learning opportunities.

Figures represent the simple combined average of the Year 3 and Year 5 school and state scores.
These results are a wonderful reflection of the dedication of our students, the expertise of our teachers and the strength of our approach to learning and teaching.
Behind every number is a student who has been challenged to think deeply, encouraged to persevere and supported to grow. We are particularly proud of the progress and achievement represented across all areas of learning.
A heartfelt thank you to our students for their hard work, our teachers for their commitment to knowing and responding to the needs of every learner, and our families for the encouragement they provide at home.
Together, we continue to let the light shine.
